The Feldenkrais Method® is a remarkable approach to human movement, learning and change originally developed by Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais. The method is based on principles of physics, biomechanics, neurology, physiology, learning and human development.

Throughout the world, the FELDENKRAIS METHOD® of somatic education is recognised for the strategies it employs to improve posture, flexibility, coordination, athletic and artistic ability and to help those with restricted movement, chronic pain and tension (including back pain), as well as neurological and developmental problems.

We each adopt patterns of physical behaviour (through our personal history, upbringing, culture, injuries, illnesses etc.). Patterns deeply embedded in our nervous system that often create unnecessary limitations. The Feldenkrais Method uses your brain’s innate capacity for learning and its potential for lifelong maturation and growth (neuroplasticity)- allowing for new patterns of thinking, moving and feeling to emerge.

Rather than teaching ‘the right’ way to move the method provides you with ‘more choices’ of how you might move; so depending on your own structure, the context you are in and the action you are intending, you can choose the most efficient and most comfortable way of acting. By understanding and identifying your habits in movement, you can learn and acquire alternatives that promote greater ease and wellbeing. By expanding the self-image through movement sequences that bring attention to the parts of the self that are out of awareness, this method enables you to include more of yourself in your functioning movements and promotes a more skeletal use of your self. By increasing sensitivity the Feldenkrais Method assists you to live your life more fully, efficiently and comfortably.

Students come with short term needs for pain relief, rehabilitation and recovery or long term goals of health, vitality and flexibility or needs of health, performance and growth.

Why do Feldenkrais?

  • Eliminate aches, pains and discomfort.

  • Move Smarter: Recover from injuries faster.

  • Improve Posture: using minimum effort and maximum skeletal support.

  • Sleep better: more relaxation means more repair.

  • Improve the Basics: Sit, stand and walk with dynamic balance.

  • Higher Performance: for musicians, dancers, actors and athletes.

  • Embody concepts of balance, flexibility and strength. Pain can limit movement, yet we fail to understand that HOW we move can actually create pain where there was none. Through Feldenkrais you relearn and clarify many of your patterns of action.

  • Improve your physical intelligence. Many habitual movement choices seem automatic, developed in our early years, without further examination-part of “who we are”. Learn to make to sensory distinctions that lead to improvement and health.

  • Keep on learning- our nervous system is attracted to novel sensations. Lessons use non-habitual movement patterns containing subtlety, variation and mindfulness.

  • Feldenkrais method has developed a reputation for helping people where nothing else could.

Increase your ease and range of motion.

Improve your flexibility and coordination.

Rediscover your innate capacity for graceful, efficient movement.

"The nervous system gives us three things. It gives us information about the body, information about the environment, and the curiosity to do so." - Moshe Feldenkrais
