Mariela Nestora
Mariela Nestora works within the field of dance and performance and is based in Athens, Greece.
She creates performances for the stage, as well as site specific and public space projects, both as a choreographer for YELP danceco. and independent dance maker. Her work has been supported by organisations and institutions such as the Greek Ministry of Culture, Athens and Epidaurus Festival, Onassis Cultural Center, Kalamata International Festival a.o. Concerned with movement, choreography and the development of the local dance community, she takes on different roles within the dance field: choreographer, researcher, co-curator and mentor.
Her artistic work is motivated by experimentation, collaborations and the environmental crisis. Also a teacher of Feldenkrais method, she applies the method’s knowledge in her artistic practice. In 2019, she graduated from the Master's program on artistic research at ArtEZ University of the Arts, Holland (Master Theatre Practices) and has also studied the Feldenkrais method (Greece 1 Training with director Ruty Bar, IFF International Feldenkrais Federation), Contemporary dance and Choreography (London Contemporary Dance School, UK), Biology (B.Sc., Queen Mary and Westfield, U.K.) and Human Molecular Genetics (M.Sc. St.Mary’s Medical School, Imperial College, U.K.).
Her artistic research is mobilized by the urgent review of the relationship between humans and the environment. Situated within Post Humanism she investigates choreography as a gathering speculating on different modes of coexistence. Since 2020 she is developing a methodology for what she coined as "molecular choreography".
Interested in gatherings and collectivity, during the last decade she instigated the Collective Choreography Project CCP, the artist led initiative for the Greek dance scene from stage to page (an artist led platform including publications for the Greek dance scene) and was a member of several collectives (Green Park, Kolektiva Omonoia, Embros Theatre, Syndesmos Chorou) and other collective projects and publications.

YELP danceco. was founded in London UK by Mariela Nestora. Its creations have been presented all over Europe (Maribor-Ljubljana/ Slovenia, Zagreb/ Croatia, Kassel- Berlin/ Germany, London-Brighton-Ipswich / U.K., Bologna/ Italy, Montpellier-Breste/ France, Bucharest/ Romania, Parnu/ Estonia, Aarhus/ Denmark, Brussels/ Belgium, Athens-Kavala-Patras-Thessaloniki-Volos-Hydra-Heraclion-Chania/ Greece).
YELP's works have been selected to participate in international dance festivals and platforms (international theatre system (ITI) platform, Greek Biennial Dance Platform, Athens Biennial), commissioned (by Kaleidoscope EU, Plesna Isba, Municipal Theatre of Patras, Patra Cultural Capital, The Place Commissions, The Video Place, Videodance festival, MIRfestival and have been financially assisted by Oxford Metrics, the Northern General Hospital & The Robin Howard Foundation. Movement director in theatre she has worked on many projects and collaborated with several directors (Greek National Theatre, Athens & Epidaurus Festival, National Theatre of Northern Greece, Municipal Theatre of Patras, Experimental theatre festival Cairo, Patras Cultural Capital, National Theatre of Albania and many others). She taught movement for actors at the Experimental Stage of the Greek National Theatre (Theatre direction and acting laboratory) and at the State theatre of Northern Greece.
Feldenkrais practitioner CFP
Mariela is certified Feldenkrais practitioner since 2014 and teaches Awareness through Movement group classes, Functional Integration private lessons in her private practice as well as teaching workshops and organising awareness retreats. She is also a founder member of the Feldenkrais Center in Athens.
